Beyond kin killing: Dickeya-derived phage-tail-like bacteriocin P2D1 targets phylogenetically distant Pseudomonas spp.

P2D1 tailocin from Dickeya dadantii was active against nine Pseudomonas strains among 480 soil and rhizosphere isolates. Six susceptible, nonpathogenic strains mitigated Dickeya-induced soft rot on potato; three related P. tensinigenes isolates caused rot on their own under permissive conditions.
