Carmen Gu Liu (TAILΦR, Baylor College of Medicine) and colleagues published a new paper in MBio describing phage-antibiotic synography, a comprehensive method of assessing the effects of phage-antibiotic combinations. They saw that phages can help antibiotics beat already-antibiotic resistant ExPEC strains, that synergy depended on antibiotic class, and that simulating human host-like conditions (eg. serum and urine) dramatically affected phage-antibiotic interactions.
