CU Anschutz Duerkop lab’s phage library against drug-resistant gut bacteria
A University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine team led by Breck Duerkop has spent 15 years compiling a library of phages against stubborn gut bacteria, mainly Enterococcus faecalis and E. faecium: more than 30 phages infecting enterococci plus roughly 15 to 20 infecting Enterobacter and Klebsiella, isolated from untreated wastewater. The lab supplied phages to help treat a 57-year-old woman with a persistent E. faecium bloodstream infection.
