Eric Nguyen (Stanford University, Arc Institute) and colleagues published a paper on their new machine learning model, Evo, a new generative AI model trained on millions of phage and bacterial genomes for designing new biological sequences from scratch. They show that Evo can design new functional CRISPRs and transposons, and generate plausible-looking phage genomes based on large phage gene essentiality datasets!
