Interview: Tristan Ferry on phage therapy, from renaissance to therapeutic revolution

Tristan Ferry, professor of infectious diseases and coordinator of the Reference Center for Complex Osteoarticular Infections (Crioac) at Hospices Civils de Lyon, explains how phage therapy works, its advantages (specificity, self-amplification, biofilm degradation) and limits, and how it is used on a compassionate basis in France. About 150 patients have been treated in France over five years, 120 to 130 of them through the PHAGEinLYON Clinic programme, which has held a national mission since January 2023 to centralize phage therapy opinions in complex osteoarticular infections.
