Kinzbio and Banco de Prótesis report personalised phage therapy for a resistant hip prosthesis infection in Uruguay

Uruguayan biotechnology company Kinzbio reports the first application of phage therapy at Uruguay's Banco de Prótesis, treating a 30-year-old patient with a hip prosthesis infection caused by an antibiotic-resistant Stenotrophomonas maltophilia that was identified by metagenomic diagnosis after conventional culture methods failed. According to Kinzbio it is the first intervention of this kind reported in a Latin American reference centre for joint disorders; la diaria reports that the patient had no adverse effects and the infection resolved.
