Master 2 internship: benchmarking phylogenetic placement for emerging-virus detection — INRAE MIAT, Toulouse

Five-to-six-month Master 2 or engineering-school internship, starting March or April 2027, at the MIAT unit (INRAE Occitanie-Toulouse) within the ANR Pro-k-mer project, co-supervised by colleagues at ENVT with exchanges with the LIRMM team in Montpellier. The intern collects viral phylogenetic trees and extends the PEWO benchmarking platform with new metrics to evaluate how accurately phylogenetic placement, compared with k-mer classifiers such as Kraken, identifies viral taxa in Nanopore data from animal samples. Python experience is mandatory, Snakemake or Nextflow welcome; the stipend is about 690 euros per month. Send CV and cover letter to the listed contact.
