McMaster researchers use friendly viruses to tackle inflammatory bowel disease

A McMaster team developed a targeted phage approach to disarm adherent-invasive E. coli linked to inflammation in some people with Crohn’s disease. In controlled experimental models, phages reduced gut inflammation by changing bacterial behaviour rather than eliminating the bacteria; further work is planned before human trials.
