Navy Medicine reports milestones from its six-year CDMRP-funded bacteriophage therapy program

Navy Medicine Research & Development reports that, over a six-year Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) award starting in fiscal year 2019, the Naval Medical Research Command worked with the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory and Walter Reed Army Institute of Research on phages against Acinetobacter baumannii, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. NMRC's labs have developed approximately 2,500 phage cocktails, and the effort has amassed a library of over 2,000 phages; its next focus is FDA Investigational New Drug applications to move the most promising cocktails into phase one studies.
