Obulytix develops phage-derived lysins against Acinetobacter baumannii as WHO issues antibiotic target product profiles

Belgian biotech Obulytix says it is developing Precision Lysin Therapeutics, engineered phage-derived enzymes that degrade bacterial cell walls, with a lead programme against multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii; it reports activity in high-serum conditions and lower bacterial burden in mouse bloodstream-infection models. The report sets this alongside new WHO target product profiles for antibiotics and roughly 90 antibacterial agents in development.
