Phage Paride kills dormant, antibiotic-tolerant Pseudomonas aeruginosa by direct lytic replication
A Nature Communications study (open access) describes Paride, a newly isolated Pseudomonas aeruginosa phage that can replicate directly in, and lyse, deep-dormant host cells, whereas other phages tested suspended replication until the host resuscitated. Combined with the carbapenem meropenem, Paride eradicated deep-dormant cultures in vitro and reduced a bacterial infection of a tissue cage implant in mice.
