PHAGE4DAIR: €14.9 million Horizon Europe trial of phage therapy for Staphylococcus aureus prosthetic joint infections

PHAGE4DAIR, a Horizon Europe project coordinated by Qeen Biotechnologies (Canada), runs from 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2031 with an EU contribution of €14,869,038.73. It is a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, adaptive Phase I/II trial of a GMP-manufactured five-phage cocktail targeting Staphylococcus aureus in prosthetic joint infections treated with DAIR (debridement, antibiotics and implant retention), with phages given intraoperatively and intravenously alongside standard-of-care antibiotics.
