REPhRAME: €15 million Horizon Europe project to test phage therapy followed by microbiome restoration for recurrent urinary tract infections

The REPhRAME project, coordinated by Universitätsmedizin Frankfurt under Prof. Maria J.G.T. Vehreschild, has been awarded €15 million through Horizon Europe; it began in June 2026 and is planned to run for five years. It will assess in a randomized clinical trial, for the first time, phage therapy (the CRISPR-engineered cocktail SNIPR001) followed by gut microbiome restoration (INTESTIFIX 001 from the Cologne Microbiota Bank) to prevent recurrent urinary tract infections, with a consortium of 16 partners in eight European countries.
