Ryan Cook (Quadram Institute) and colleagues investigated the differences in viral populations recovered from human gut samples using Nanopore and Illumina sequencing technologies, finding that while Illumina is preferable for fully resolved viral genomes, a hybrid approach combining both technologies provides a more authentic representation of viral diversity.
