Targeted bacteriophage T4 nanoparticles reverse HIV-1 latency in human T cell line models (iScience)

Bacteriophage T4 capsid nanoparticles arrayed with a CD4-binding DARPin or the HIV-1 gp140 envelope trimer reactivated HIV-1 latency in J-Lat T cell models and primary T lymphocytes without global T cell activation or cytokine storm, independently of the PKC and NFAT pathways. The authors conclude that engineered non-infectious phages could be exploited for HIV-1 cure and targeted T cell therapies.
