Kathy Lam (UCSF) and colleagues published a new preprint showing that M13 phage (engineered to express CRISPR-Cas9) can deplete specific strains of E. coli colonizing the mouse gut. They also used this system to create genetic deletions in the targeted strains, which could prove even more useful. Altogether, they've developed a highly adaptable platform for in vivo microbiome engineering using phage.
