Dror Shitrit (Israel Institute of Technology, Israel) and colleagues published a paper in ISME Journal on how genetic engineering of marine cyanophages reveals integration but not lysogeny in T7-like cyanophages. They developed a method of investigating key cyanophage genes, made it adaptable to other host-virus systems, and found evidence of transient integration of T7-like cyanophage that is not part of a classical lysogenic cycle.
