Svenja Thöneböhn (Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen, Germany) and colleagues have identified new components of the Shewanella phage LambdaSo lysis system, including a pinholin/signal-anchor-release (SAR) endolysin system and a two-component spanin module, which are required for inducing cell lysis and phage egress.
