Enea Maffei (University of Basel) and colleagues published a preprint on their systematic exploration of a new panel of 66 Escherichia coli phages, which is now available for the community. They designed the collection to be used as a reference collection to accelerate phage research. They've extensively characterized the phages phenotypically and genotypically, including essential host receptors, sensitivity to defense systems, and host range. What a fantastic initiative!
