Vibrio cholerae CBASS antiphage system boosts killing by antifolate antibiotics
A Nature Microbiology study from the Universities of Würzburg and Tübingen shows that in Vibrio cholerae the CBASS anti-phage signalling system increases sensitivity to antifolate antibiotics up to tenfold and enables bacterial lysis by these otherwise bacteriostatic drugs. The interaction is specific to CBASS systems with closely related nucleotidyltransferases, and antifolate resistance genes abolish it.
