A starting point for learning about phage therapy and discussing research-based options with your care team. Phage Directory is a research-focused information resource. We do not provide treatment or accept patients.
Phage therapy uses bacteriophages—viruses that infect bacteria—to target bacterial infections. Each phage acts against particular bacteria, so a laboratory needs to find a suitable match. It is not a treatment for every infection or for illnesses without a bacterial cause. UC San Diego’s IPATH FAQ explains the basics and limitations.
Phage therapy is being studied for difficult bacterial infections, including some that resist antibiotics or persist despite treatment. It is still investigational in the United States, and a successful match or treatment outcome is not guaranteed. Your doctor needs to establish which bacteria are causing the infection and assess the available treatments. Phages may be used alongside antibiotics; they are not a reason to stop prescribed care. See Yale’s patient FAQ and IPATH’s eligibility guidance.
Start with your treating physician or an infectious-disease specialist. In the US, there are two main routes:
Your physician can review prior treatment and culture results with a phage program and coordinate the next steps. IPATH advises people receiving care elsewhere to have their physician contact its team. Use a clinician-led program with appropriate laboratory testing and oversight; do not try to source or administer phages yourself.
These are useful starting points to read with your care team, not promises of treatment or current availability:
For background reading:
These are historical reports, not current access guidance or a prediction of anyone else’s outcome. For medical decisions, use current program guidance with your physician.
The directory below includes international programs and studies. Access rules vary by country; a listing does not establish eligibility or availability for US patients.
No. Trials have specific study requirements. Treatment outside trials follows a different pathway, with rules that depend on the country. The FDA explains US expanded access.
Case-by-case programs assess individual requests. Unconfirmed means we couldn’t verify current availability or found conflicting information; it doesn’t mean the program has closed.
Ask about eligibility, referrals, costs and follow-up care. Countries in the list describe program or study locations; they don’t establish whether international patients can access treatment.
Resources for your care team
Phage Directory shares information and does not provide treatment. Our alert intake and clinical coordination service are paused. View past phage alerts.
The former contribution form is closed. Send general resource suggestions through Tips; it is not a treatment-request form.
These 17 centers and networks list a current inquiry or referral route in this directory. Many assess treatment case by case. A listed route does not confirm an available treatment or appointment; your care team should check the requirements with the program.

The full list below also includes observational and adjacent-product studies, individual-case protocols, suppliers, facilitators, planned programs, unconfirmed entries and historical records. They are not presented here as open treatment options.
Search by condition, location or name. Use the filters for trial sites, support services or historical records. Select an entry or “Details” to open its saved record. “Website” opens the original source. Listings do not guarantee access to treatment.
We bring together current and past trials, treatment centers and companies working on phage therapy. Sources include clinical trial registries and official hospital, clinic and company websites. Some information comes from older pages or search results, and the list is incomplete.
The list starts with programs and studies. Choose All types to also include individual trial sites. A trial site is a place listed in a study; it may not offer treatment outside that trial. Study years refer to the trial, not how long a clinic has been open. Studies involving one patient, observational research and related products are labeled separately.
Use Status to include historical or closed records. Some programs consider patients case by case. “Unconfirmed” means we couldn’t verify current availability or found conflicting information. Check with the clinic or study team before making plans.
The latest entry review is the newest individual review, not a review of the whole list. Each entry shows when we last checked its sources. “Needs recheck” means it hasn’t been checked for two months; it doesn’t mean the program has closed.
